Olivia figured stuff out

As an avid reader of this blog (hi, Dad) you know that the majority of my previous nine posts were about me discovering a new part of Web 2.0 and realizing that as a millennial, I don’t actually know everything about the internet.

This week, I’ll change it up a bit. I won’t discuss anything new, but rather, talk about my discoveries of the past nine weeks. Particularly, what I enjoyed the most.

Let’s dive in.

Instagram in Libraries

Talking about online photo an video sharing was my favourite part of this whole experience. I loved scrolling through the Instagram accounts of different libraries and seeing what they were sharing. I love when libraries share photos from their archives.

Library organizational tools

The week we talked about organizational tools was also interesting to me. I really enjoyed evaluating their use in libraries and in personal life. Learning about Doodle was life-changing as I will now be using it to plan all my events for the rest of eternity.

Libraries who podcast

Finally, finding library podcasts was a highlight of my blogging journey. Discovering a world of podcasts that cover a variety of library-related topics was extraordinary. As you may have read, I especially loved the one that reviewed not-so-great bestselling books. Hilarious.

Is there more…

Of course, it would be naive to think that in just 10 weeks, I have talked about all aspects of Web 2.0. There are things I missed that I would have liked to know more about.

For example, I would have liked to discuss online purchasing. I feel that may be a common topic in public libraries, with patrons asking how to purchase products online, or even how to sell their own work.

Furthermore, there are online services that can help people create a website for their products and that manage customer purchases. Weebly is a perfect example of that service. It takes the seller through step by step instructions on how to create the ideal website for customer satisfaction and that is an “All-in-one powerful eCommerce tools to simplify order management, shipping, and payments.” (Weebly)

Using that kind of Web 2.0 tool is foreign to me, and I will have to do my own research and be prepared for if and when questions about it surface in my professional career.

Final thoughts…

This post wraps up the blog assignment for my college class. From this experience, I discovered that I love writing blog posts and that I may be good at it. My greatest discovery from this journey is that blogging is something I would like to come back to in the future.

As for now, I’ll be signing off for a little while.

Thank you for following along with me, and I hope to see you again soon.
